"Photo inspires Rooney Sculpture", Photos by Darrell Sapp

A 1923 photo of Pittsburgh's Hope Harvey Football Club, the first sports team managed by Art Rooney and the only time he and brothers Dan, Jim and Vince played together on a team, has inspired a sculpture.
On display through October at the Hot Metal Grille on the South Side, it's the work of Mt. Lebanon sculptor Ray Sokolowski, who worked with wife and artist Kathy Rooney (youngest daughter of Vince Rooney) to pay tribute to a time when sandlot teams made their own uniforms and passed the hat for paychecks.
The sculpture took more than a year to complete, and the signed and numbered figures were hand-sculpted and cold cast in nickel resin.
Limited editions are available for $20,000.
